Obedient Effort
The Spirit of God is sent to all of God’s people who believe and confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Jesus promises the Holy Spirit to be sent to believers from God (John 14:16, 26; John 15:26; 16:7). There is a unity that is among God, Jesus, and the Spirit. The promise of the Spirit expresses that He will teach us concerning all truth and remind us of the teachings of Jesus.
The outcome of the unity among the apostles led them to pray together (Acts 1:12-14) and were reminded of the Scriptures, leading them to fill the position of Judas (Acts 1:20). They continued to pray and take proper action to fill the twelfth position (Acts 1:24).
As the disciples continued to stay together in one place, the presence of the Holy Spirit came upon them as a gift and a purpose for the gift to share the gospel as Jesus commanded. The presence of the Holy Spirit coming upon the apostles brought people to them. Peter steps into an opportunity to explain the moment they are in through what he knew of the Scriptures in Joel 2:28-32 (Acts 2:17-21) and then continued to explain the gospel of Jesus and invited them to repent (Acts 2:22-41). This grand moment was initiated through the obedience of the apostles and followers of Jesus.
Make the effort to be obedient and faithful to God by being present in the gatherings of His people. God is worthy of all of our effort to be obedient to Him.
