Assessing Wisdom
In the days to come, many people will reminisce over what they have experienced this year. For some, this is how they will determine the steps they will need to take in the coming year. Others may merely believe that next year needs to be better because there’s always room for improvement; but they will fail to assess how to gain the strength to improve. Our drive for improvement is linked to how we practice and apply our skills. However, it's also influenced by our desires, which fuel our motivation to practice and execute effectively.
Proverbs 3:13-18
Solomon wrote that “blessed is the one who finds wisdom and the one who gets understanding”. This may seem like a repetitive statement with the use of wisdom and understanding, but these are two different words. The word used for wisdom is ḥāḵmāh highlighting the ability to have knowledge and skills about living. The word for understanding is teḇû·nā which is about being able to understand. The first focus is knowing we need muscles to move our bodies. The second is knowing that strategically applied pressure for certain amounts of time can strengthen the muscles that we know we need. These two perspectives help us lead a balanced life that does not chase goals and pleasures that are far beyond our reach.
This continued focus of strengthening ourselves allows us to experience rewards in the hands of wisdom, namely long life in her right hand and riches and honor in her left.
Take steps to seek godly understand and live in the pressure of growing your faith that you know you need, not just hoping for faith to eventually show up.
