A Sudden Loss

King Uzziah was a typical king of Israel. He experienced great success because his leadership was rooted in fearing God. 2 Chronicles 26:2-5 explains that he was sixteen years old when he came to power and had a mentor, Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of the Lord.
He defeated the Philistines and other fortified cities and then continued to fortify Jerusalem with watchtowers.  He strengthened his army with personal equipment for soldiers and was the first king to have war machines built to catapult stones or boulders for defenses.
Along with protecting his people he also produced infrastructure for his people. He had towers built in the wilderness and he also had cisterns made for irrigation of agriculture, “for he loved the soul”.
The opportunity to continue to experience success was ripped from him because he pridefully assumed priestly duties. In a split second, he failed to fear God. In 2 Chronicles 26:17, Uzziah is instructed to stop.  Rather than stopping, he becomes angry and tries to use the power of his position to protest. As a result, God strikes him with leprosy. This act of God caused him to be removed from power and become king of Jerusalem in name only.
2 Chronicles 26:19-23
A sudden loss of our fear of God will cause sudden loss of some or all of what He has given us. Take the steps that God gives you and never the ones that you take on your own.
