Rooted in the Love of God
Love can be a tricky emotion to handle, but we all seek it. It can get confusing because it’s possible to experience other emotions on the way to experiencing love. It is said that those whom you love have the greatest possibility of hurting you the deepest. There’s an illusion of protection from deep hurt if our source of love is only internal to be controlled and defined us rather than externally found and defined by God. Placing our faith in Christ is the gateway to receiving God’s love.
When Adam and Eve committed the first sin, God said “man has become like one of us knowing good and evil” (Gen. 3:22). This alludes that God didn’t even want us to know evil existed. He just wanted us to know Him. Now we see both, the fruit of love from God, which is good, and the fruit of evil, which is selfish and deceitful. One verse that is challenging to our whole life is Deuteronomy 6:5: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” This is an easy verse to know, but a challenging call to live out consistently. Love is never expressed without sacrifice. What are you sacrificing to know the Lord better and prove that you trust the Lord for more?
