The Family of God

To be a part of God’s people involves an acceptance of others who are godly and bring God's mission into their lives. This was the struggle of the leadership and Jesus’ mother and brothers.
Mark 3:22-35
The religious leadership had to explain the power that Jesus obtained. They gave no regard to the goodness it was producing by healing people and simply proclaimed Jesus obtained his power form Beelzebul. While in the same setting Mary and her other sons come to try and reign Jesus in as merely human and only a part of their family. In the time of that culture It would be the duty of the father or oldest son to correct another male member of the family. Jesus being the oldest son explains the presence of Mary and His brothers.1
Inside Jesus’ response to the religious leadership He expresses a parallel between “kingdom” and “house” supporting His claim of being sent from God and being of God’s kingdom. When He replies to the calling from His family members, He questions who His family members are. He answers His own question stating that “whoever does the will of God he is my brother and sister and mother” (Mark 3:35 ESV).
Our acceptance of Jesus should cause us to relinquish our power to be used by Jesus for what He is desires to do in the world with the Gospel, which the religious leaders refused to do. We all have a picture of what we desire our lives and families to look like, but the lives and families we have are a byproduct of His creation as well as a reason to give Jesus and God glory. We can’t resist Jesus or direct Jesus for the sake of our desired outcome. Accept what Jesus has done for your and walk with Jesus in such a way that you bring Him into every sphere of life you are a part of.
