The Value of God's Word

What you value can be discovered by acknowledging where your time and effort are given. Sometimes we place more value on the results than on the process.  Focusing on the process and the means to achieve the results can reveal what we truly value and lead to growth. Solomon wrote that “Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way” (Prov. 19:2). If we value a particular result, then we must value the process that will lead to the result.

Mark 4:1-20

In the parable of the sower, Jesus explains that seeds are being sown into four different types of landscapes, highlighting the conditions of an individual's heart.1 The heart that accepts the word of God values the work of the sower just as much as the benefit of the fruit from the work of the sower. If we honestly place our value in Jesus and desire for the fruit of our lives to come from the seed of God’s Word, we will proclaim that “The law of the Lord is perfect”, it makes the simple wise, His word is to be desired more than gold (Psalm 19:7-12), and is a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). The value of God’s word will then become the influence which “creates, reveals, judges, restores, and recreates” the fruit of our lives.2 The steps we take with Jesus show we value His Word and show that we live in peace, knowing it’s “God who gives the growth” (1 Cor. 3:7) of His seed in our lives.
