Interest of Others
The challenge from Paul to obtain and live out the mind of Christ expresses the foundation in which Jesus lived and taught. The effort from the church is displayed by the amount an individual adheres to the Lord’s teachings and the guidance of the Spirit.
Philippians 1:27-30, 2:4-7
Paul’s teaching to the Philippian church was aimed at the character of the church, charging them to live in a worthy manner of the gospel. This manner that Christians live in has to have a foundation of inspiration that comes from outside of us, so we can be the conduit leading others to the gospel.
If the inspiration only comes from within, we run the risk of setting a precedent that we are the standard, rather than being able to encourage others with the gospel. One commentator expresses that the good works we do are a conviction for the world to see Christ, and it is an encouragement for the growth of the faith in the believer.
The challenge for many Christians can be the struggle to look to the interests of others because of their own interest rather than isolated from their own interest.
