Faithful & Wise

Luke 12:41-48
Living up to the standard of God's instructions that are found in the Scripture will cause us to live in a way that exemplifies care for others. How does the gospel drive your work and worship? Your approach to this answer is related to the maturity of your faith and how it influences your reaction to the instructions the gospel gives to you through your relationship with Jesus. The manager in this parable understood his instruction to be a servant to those he leads. His authority was based on the expectation of his master's returning, but he also knew there was an expectation from the master.
The first attribute of the maturity of our relationship with Jesus that shows us to be faithful and wise is the ability to value received instructions over our own desires. When a desire takes precedence over the instructions given to us, the actions of our lives will be parallel to those of the wicked manager, and we will receive an equal punishment. Even though we are given authority over creation and sometimes other people, we need to remember that authority comes with the purpose to serve God.
The second attribute that reveals faithfulness and wisdom is the ability to see beyond ourselves to care for those whom we are serving. The parable that Jesus tells expresses that the manager is leading other servants of his master, but in order to lead them, he aimed to meet their needs and feed them at the proper time. The only way we can know the proper time to serve others is to know and engage with them in life. Be mindful of the actions that you take; God has given His people instructions to live life. Take steps to know them and follow them so you may be found faithful and wise.
