Invest in the Gospel
The rat race of life, from the perspective of the world, is heavily based on the outcome of financial habits and investment picks. The truth of this attribute of life proves that consistent discipline always tells a story of the outcome of particular habits. Our faith in Christ is no different. The consistent habit and focus to invest in the gospel lead to God’s involvement in our lives.
Acts 10 tells the outcome of the discipline of a Roman centurion, Cornelius, who was known to be mindful and helpful to those in need, as well as his effort to acknowledge God through prayer. The result of his effort and investment is being told the gospel to receive salvation (Acts 10:44-45). Acts 10:1-8 shows his discipline towards God being seen and heard by God, leading to God giving him the complete message of the gospel. Verse 7 shows Cornelius’s investment in the gospel before he is even a true believer in the gospel. The simple act of his sending a soldier, whose job was to personally attend to Cornelius with his servants, shows his investment and determination to make sure that what was commanded of him by the angel was done.
Many times, we’re willing to encourage the effort of spreading the gospel. But are we leveraging our position and ability to ensure the message or messengers of the gospel are able to share the message? Cornelius did not have to send a soldier with the servants, but his action revealed the value he had for God in his life.
Consider the effort you give toward the gospel; does it reflect that you are invested in the gospel or just agreeing with it? God has placed you where you are to leverage your life to help spread the gospel of Jesus. Our job then is to discern our ability and allow our willingness to influence our actions.
