Four Approaches to Wisdom

Proverbs 4:5-8

We all go through life seeking at least a little wisdom. It’s almost impossible to avoid, we will all come along her path eventually. Our interaction with her is all based on the choice we make when we discover her. Solomon gave some simple approaches to wisdom.

The first is to have drive to “get it”. Not for a means to an end but it is the motivation and nothing else. Sometimes we only endure getting wisdom to get us to another achievement.

Second do not forget her. There’s a lot of things that get forgotten. Sometimes we grow past an issue and humility is crushed and we forget how wisdom helped us and we may even credit our own strength.

Thirdly do not forsake her or turn away. This not the same as forgetting it’s actually rejecting and refusing, because we think we’re strong enough already.

Lastly, prize her. This one can be tricky. We all want to be successful in life but one little question helps us stay true. Identify who you want to be honored by. Are you wanting to be honored by particular people or by wisdom? Pandering for the praise of people is a shallow reward. Being praised by wisdom will sustain you and keep you content.

Whatever your next step is, work at it to be honored by wisdom and not human praise.
