Rejoice and be Grateful

Many people have the means to take care of meals before their body becomes hungry. We know that everyone dose not have this luxury but most people living in our country do. After the disciples experienced God using them to teach and heal people they fell into another moment where Jesus challenged them (Mark 6:37) and He ended up feeding five thousand people (Mark 6:38).

The struggle with us to grow our faith will continue if we rushing through passages like this and think that Jesus challenged the disciples and gave instructions in the same breath. Clearly He didn’t but in time it takes us to read these two verses we undermine the opportunity Jesus gave to the disciples and miss our parallel thought process of them looking to their own strength and resources to feed the people.

Fast forward a couple verse in Mark 6:52 it says that the disciples did not understand the loaves, but their hearts were hardened. I believe that one reason for their hearts being hardened is that they were not grateful nor identified the power of God’s provision for a necessary need of a meal on a grand scale.

There is a verse that John wrote later on in 1 John 5:4 saying that “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world- our faith.” Depending on your translation you may see the word “even” before “our faith” expressing that the victory of God overcomes the world and even when we don’t have enough faith. Paint the full picture of your inadequacies by being grateful what God is doing for your and through you.
